The show’s (resident hottie) Michael Weatherly tells USA TODAY’s Andrea Mandell he’s shooting the finale as we speak – and it’s explosive.

“We’ve got agents getting shot, chaos, mayhem and super intrigue,” teases Weatherly, who plays Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo.

OK, so who gets shot? “I can tell you that more than one person gets killed,” he says of the Season 8 ender. “It’s epic. It feels to me like old-school NCIS. We’ve been on the air so long I can say that,” he says with a laugh. “To me the season finale evokes the stuff we were doing in Seasons 2 and 3.”

The happily married actor, 42, credits the stability of the show for “a strong relationship with my son and my beautiful wife,” Bojana, a medical resident at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.

Weatherly tells us he plans on using his summer hiatus to take his son August, 15 (from his first marriage to Amelia Heinle), to Europe. “He kind of hates his name right now, but the first time he hears a French teenage girl pronounce his name, ‘Augoost,'” Weatherly says, noting how in French the name makes lips “pucker out like you’re getting ready to kiss somebody – I think he’s going to be very happy. I had a plan 15 years ago. I wanted to set him up!”

Love all the NCIS scoop. Now give me some more! — Lance
ADAM:
Could someone new be joining the ranks of NCIS brass? The show is in search of someone to play a politically savvy and powerful D.C. administrator who steps into his new job driven to get things done with little concern for consequences. The character is scheduled to play a substantive part in the end of this season, and possibly the beginning of the next.

Oh, no, McAbby fans! There’s trouble on the way — and he’s huge.

Former NFLer Matthew Willig (pictured, center) makes his debut tonight on NCIS as Special Agent Simon Cade, an intimidating genius with an eye for Abby. ”There’s been some talk about a connection I may or may not have with Abby, and I think there’s something there,” he teases. “I’m a new agent in a new town and I’m looking for someone to show me around.” (Willig and fellow guest star Alimi Ballard’s arrival was first teased in Spoiler Room.)

And you can bet McGee “will definitely get jealous as time goes on,” Willig says.

“I think the dynamic that Abby and McGee have — they’re sort of in a stale spot. [Cade will] shake that up,” he tells EW. “There was just an instant attraction there with [Cade and Abby]. She’s friendly right off the bat, and there’s definitely a little connection we see.”

The only problem, according to Willig? He’s aware that McGee and Abby fans might not welcome his arrival, and the thought of disrupting a fandom as passionate as the McAbby group is enough to make even him squirm. “I’m paranoid. I may have to watch where I go out at night to make sure I don’t get followed,” he laughs.

What do you say, McAbby fans? Should Willig watch his back? Or are we excited to see McGee sweat it out?

If we learned anything from last week’s NCIS, it’s that Jethro Gibbs doesn’t exactly play well with others.

Gibbs (Mark Harmon) went several rounds with Agent E.J. Barrett (Sarah Jane Morris) as the two jockeyed for the lead on the Port-to-Port serial killer case. Expect more of the same when the rest of Barrett’s team — played by NUMB3RS star Alimi Ballard and NFL player Matthew Willig — show up in Tuesday’s episode. But it won’t just be Gibbs who is on edge.

“I think everybody’s fur stands up a little bit in the beginning,” Pauley Perrette tells TVGuide.com. “Abby always wants to protect her team and doesn’t like change.”

Ballard, who plays Agent Layne Gavin, agrees that tensions initially run high, but once Barrett’s team is officially put in charge of the P2P Killer, the two teams may actually begin to jell. “It’s not one big cozy family when you have somebody playing on your playground,” Ballard says with a laugh. “So, disagreements are bound to come up. … But the purpose of both of those teams is to solve crimes. And when you really stay true to that, the collaboration factor happens.

“There has to be a point [where] people have to say, ‘Put the hatchets away,'” Ballard continues. “You can get back to being the Hatfields and McCoys soon enough, but for the sake of righting a wrong … you have to work together. You have to play nice. I think wiser, cooler heads do prevail.”

That may be because, like Gibbs’ team, the new guys are a very close-knit unit as well. “They are definitely tight and loyal on our side. You see it immediately,” Ballard says. “You put your life in these guys’ hands and vice versa. There is a [level of comfort] about it.”

Speaking specifically about his character, Ballard says Agent Gavin is sometimes his own worst enemy. “He’s professional; he loves his job,” he says. “One of the things that I like most about him is that he is a smartass and he can’t help it sometimes. He shouldn’t chime in, but there he is saying something. He’s always got a couple of wisecracks.”

That sounds a lot like Anthony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly), doesn’t it? Ballard, who previously worked with Weatherly on the ABC soap opera Loving as well as Dark Angel, says the similarity is no accident.

“When they told me that I got this job, I said, ‘I have to have the opportunity to mess with Michael Weatherly,'” Ballard says. “I love him; he was at my engagement when I proposed to my wife. I don’t want to say for certain [that Gavin messes with DiNozzo], but the gods can be very kind.”

They’ll need those moments of levity to help them deal with the Port-to-Port Killer’s increasing body count. “Whenever you have a serial killer, someone’s going down,” Perrette says.

Adds Ballard: “This is the highest terror level that you can imagine. It is completely volatile. It works that people are on edge; it works for the audience not to know who’s going to stick around and who’s going to go. It’s unnerving. … You will be uncomfortable, but you will be extremely entertained. If you are a fan of this show, it’s going to make you nervous. You are not going to know which way the bullets are flying.”

NCIS airs Tuesday at 8/7c on CBS.

Say what you will, “Tiva” fans, but NCIS newcomer E.J. Barrett (played by Sarah Jane Morris) is a Special Agent to be reckoned with, whether she’s butting heads with “the Great White” or asking DiNozzo to hand her a towel. E.J.’s chilly welcome won’t be warmed up much this Tuesday (at 8/7c, CBS), when her own team of agents makes camp in Gibbs’ squad room, to help out with the Port-to-Port Killer case.

Morris spoke with TVLine about E.J.’s unexpected designs on DiNozzo, why Ziva won’t ever spook the new gal, and how the P2P storyline promises to be rife with danger.

TVLINE | While watching last week’s episode, I had to wonder if maybe E.J. might want to dial it down a notch when challenging “the Great White.”
[Laughs] Yeah, I guess…. I see E.J. just trying to do her job.

TVLINE | Do you take a deep breath before having to get up in Mark Harmon’s grill for a scene?
You know, I’ve definitely got a side of me, in Sarah Jane Morris, that can deal with the men, the confrontation and all that stuff. Ask my husband!

TVLINE | Will tensions between E.J. and Gibbs continue to run hot?
There will continue to be some tension, but in this next episode Gibbs kind of accepts that [the P2P killer] is E.J.’s case — not that he’s happy about it.

TVLINE | Would you go so far as to say he comes to appreciate her skill set?
Oh, no. No, not yet. Maybe one day. I still don’t really get why no one trusts E.J., but there’s still a part of Gibbs that doesn’t like the way she does things.

TVLINE | This week her own team shows up. Tell us about Agents Gayne Levin and Simon Cade.
Well, they’re top-notch agents, played by two awesome guys — Alimi Ballard (Numb3rs) and [NFL Super Bowl champ] Matthew Willig. Visually, it’s a funny looking team — Matthew is very big, and I’m pretty small — but we’re a tight team, just as Gibbs and his team are.

TVLINE | Is there any new steaminess coming up for E.J. and Tony (Michael Weatherly)? They got off to a strong start with that shower scene in your first episode.
[Laughs] They’re still connecting, but they have to figure out how to navigate that relationship with the work relationship. I don’t think they feel the need to hide it anymore – everyone knows, pretty much! – but at the same time, Tony knows that it makes Gibbs uncomfortable. And I don’t think Ziva approves — for whatever may be her own reasons.

TVLINE | Does E.J. know or suspect that anything ever “simmered” between Tony and Ziva (Cote de Pablo)?
I don’t think that E.J. is easily intimidated by other women, so I don’t think she has any reason to suspect anything or feel insecure around Ziva.

TVLINE | Well, E.J. seems happy to have a reason to stay in town a while longer.
Yeah, I don’t think that Tony was part of her plan by any means. But she starts realizing there are things she’s missing out on in life, being the ambitious agent she is.

TVLINE | Might we learn that the Port-to-Port Killer has a personal vendetta against one of the NCIS agents?
No, I don’t think we’re going to find out that it’s personal for him…. But he’s obviously very calculated and specific with who he kills, so it will hit close to home.

TVLINE | Where is this all leading — to blood being figuratively spilled on the squad room floor?
It’s going to get pretty nasty out there. Lots of danger. Everyone’s going to start feeling the danger all around them.

TVLINE | Maybe not all of the NCIS agents now populating our screen make it out alive…?
I actually don’t know the answer to that yet, but we’re anxiously awaiting for the next script to get answers. But I really like my guys, and I like everyone in the original cast, too, so I’m hopeful [no one dies]! But you never know with NCIS. Yesterday, I showed up to shoot a scene out in the woods, and there were no other actors around. “Did they do a rewrite and I’m about to get shot in the head or something? Where is everyone?!” It’s a little nerve-wracking, because you never know who they’re going to take out!

NCIS fans, what is your latest take on Special Agent Barrett? And who do you think might be felled by the P2P Killer?

NCIS , please! Bonus points for something on Tony! — Jan
Time is ticking down to a major development in Tony and E.J.’s relationship. Exec producer Gary Glasberg tells me that, as we head into the finale, fans should be looking for the Port-to-Port killer case to “affect Tony and E.J. in a huge way, and it will affect Ziva and Ray in a big way.” The strange thing? I don’t think that sounds quite like imminent death, but rather a shake-up. After all, Glasberg did say, “When you’re putting together a story like this, not only do you want it to drive story-wise through the end of the season, but you want it to propel things into next season.” Taking guesses now! Proposals? Break-ups? Or just lots of shacking up?

Looks like Gibbs the rest of the NCIS team are going to need even more help than they thought to nab the Port-to-Port killer.

Former Dawson’s Creek star Kerr Smith has booked a season-ending, two-episode arc on the CBS crime drama, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively. Smith will play Lt. Jonas Cobb, a confident former military man.

Sounds like standard fare on NCIS, right? Not so fast. “Lt. Cobb’s unique talents and training will play a key role in helping the team figure out the identity of the Port-to-Port Killer,” executive producer Gary Glasberg tells us.

Smith’s casting follows that of NUMB3RS star Alimi Ballard and Matthew Willig, both of whom play NCIS agents reporting to E.J. Barrett (Sarah Jane Morris). Ballard and Willig’s characters debut on Tuesday, as Barrett’s team is officially given the lead in the Port-to-Port Killer case.

Besides his work as Jack on Dawson’s Creek, Smith has starred on such series as E-Ring, Justice, and most recently, Life Unexpected. He also held a recurring role on ABC’s Eli Stone and memorably played the “333 Caller” on CSI: NY.

NCIS airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on CBS. Smith will appear in the May 10 episode as well as the May 17 season finale.
