Question: There’s been a lot of talk about a Tiva conversation on NCIS, but what about the other trapped pair, Gibbs and Abby? Don’t they have anything to talk about? Will they be in any shape to talk at all? Please, give us some scoop! —Leni
Ausiello: It’s interesting, Leni. While everyone is fretting over the fate of this agent or that one, has anyone stopped to think what the season-ending explosion means for the squad room itself? Series boss Gary Glasberg tells us the HQ will “miraculously be rebuilt” to look “pretty much” the same as it ever was, though its signature orange scheme may prove to be one casualty. “There’s a whole storyline in Episode 2 about that,” he says, “the color of the walls.”
NCIS has at least two family reunions on tap for Season 10, including Robert Wagner‘s third appearance as DiNozzo’s dad.
Anthony DiNozzo, Sr. will resurface “right around Christmas, in a holiday episode,” NCIS showrunner Gary Glasberg tells TVLine. “We’ve never done a Christmas one with him, so that’s fun.”
Glasberg also revealed to me — prior to Pauley Perrette sharing this photo on Twitter — that Abby’s younger brother Kyle, played by Daniel Luis Rivas, is set to return to the CBS procedural in a storyline that unfolds in the wake of the explosion that nearly killed many in the Season 9 finale. Rivas will appear in an early October episode, having first played the role a year earlier.

NCIS | When Season 10 opens on Sept. 25, two hours will have passed since the May finale ended with a bang. Tony and Ziva have spent that entire time trapped in an elevator — and they will remain there a bit longer, as they “emotionally connect,” says showrunner Gary Glasberg, adding: “I look forward to what’s coming up for them.” As does Coté de Pablo, whom I asked about the season-opening quality time. “Every single time Michael [Weatherly] and I work together, and especially when we haven’t seen each other in a long time, we really enjoy the chemistry,” the actress says. “It comes back in waves, and if you’re smart enough to capitalize on it, you’ll start writing for it.” So is this the season NCIS goes there with “Tiva”? “I don’t know if they’re going to go there,” de Pablo winks, “but they’re definitely going to explore, which I love. It’s such a fun relationship to explore.” Alas, it may not be all fun ahead for the gorg’ NCIS agent. Says Glasberg, “There will be a big sort of turn — an unexpected reveal — for Ziva about halfway through the season.”
Have you heard anything more about the Tony-Ziva elevator scenes coming up on NCIS? — Kristin
ADAM: I have. “The elevator scenes are so good,” executive producer Gary Glasberg says. But more importantly, post-bombing trauma may bring the duo closer than ever before. “[Tony and Ziva] can’t help but be affected by this in a certain way, and they will continue to reach out to each other because of the connection they have as friends and as coworkers,” Glasberg says. “There are definitely ‘moments.’ I’d like to take things a little further along than we have [in the past].”

Ausiello: I’ve got some info on three guest-star roles that’ll show up the CBS procedural during the upcoming season. The eccentric Dr. Blackwell is a big-deal space geologist who weighs in on some mysterious material the feds bring him, and Ellie is an upper-middle-class lady who blames herself for her father’s death a decade ago and is shocked when new information tells a different story. But wait, I saved the best for last: The show’s looking for a 50-ish male to play an aging one-hit wonder from the late 1970s who blew his earnings in the ’80s and has been skirting creditors ever since – and if it works out, an actual rock star from that era will get the part.
LOS ANGELES • When last seen, Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard of “NCIS” had collapsed on the beach with what seemed to be a major heart attack. With St. Louis fans wondering about his fate, I looked for David McCallum, who plays Ducky, at a CBS party Sunday night — but he was nowhere to be found.
So I tracked down Brian Dietzen, who’s a regular this season as Ducky’s sidekick, Jimmy Palmer, for some scoop. After softening Dietzen up by chatting about his recent visit to St. Louis for a movie premiere (he enjoyed the Loop and the Tivoli), I got him to tell me that “when the season opens, Jimmy is the medical examiner.” Don’t worry too much about Ducky, though; in May, McCallum signed a new two-year contract.
EXCLUSIVE: The entire cast of NCIS will come back intact when the veteran CBS drama starts production on its 10th season next week. Michael Weatherly, Pauley Perrette and Sean Murray have all signed two-year deals to continue on the hit procedural starring Mark Harmon. Weatherly, Perrette and Murray are three of four veteran NCIS cast members whose contracts were up after Season 9. The fourth, David McCallum, re-upped in April, while negotiations between CBS/CBS Studios and Weatherly, Perrette and Murray continued on-and-off until separate agreements were reached over the past 10 days. Also returning with a new deal is Rocky Carroll, who joined NCIS in Season 5. Weatherly, Perrette and McCallum are original cast members, while Murray joined during the first season. The rest of the cast, including star/executive producer Harmon, have deals in place for next season.
