Former Charmed and Melrose Place star Victor Webster is set to guest-star on an upcoming episode of NCIS: Los Angeles, and as you can see in this exclusive first look, he might just throw a wrench into the bubbling chemistry between Kensi and Deeks.

Webster plays Stanley King, a world-class thief suspected of several high-end heists. He lands on NCIS’ radar after a secure facility housing sensitive materials on a Marine base is compromised. In order to get close enough to keep an eye on King, Kensi (Daniala Ruah) must work alongside him as a savvy thief.

As you might suspect, I’m hearing that Kensi makes quite a connection with Webster’s bad boy. Naturally, Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) isn’t keen on watching his partner get so close to another man — but only out of fear for her safety, we’re sure.

Coincidentally, Webster is currently presenting himself as an obstacle for another pair of will-they-won’t-they procedural partners: Castle and Beckett on ABC’s Castle. The actor, who has also appeared on Criminal Minds, Lincoln Heights, and Mutant X, will next star in Scorpion King: Rise of the Dead on the big screen.

NCIS: Los Angeles airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on CBS. Webster’s episode, titled “The Job,” is slated to air March 29.

NCIS star Michael Weatherly knows how fortunate he is to be taking his first turn behind the camera on TV’s No. 1 drama, with a supportive family-like cast he’s worked with for eight seasons and a crew he’s now able to appreciate in a whole new light. “I’ve been spoiled and forever ruined for any other experiences,” he says. In tonight’s episode “One Last Score” (CBS, 8 p.m. ET), NCIS discovers that one of its former investigative assistants found dead was selling details for how to rob a warehouse full of valuable possessions (including Steve McQueen’s sunglasses) belonging to the Madoff of the Navy (guest star JoBeth Williams). As always, there’s a lot going on in the hour.

“I think I had 12 or 15 main stories that I was trying to tell,” he says. “That’s a lot.” One of those is the arrival of a new character, NCIS Special Agent Erica Jane “EJ” Barrett (played by Brothers & Sisters‘ Sarah Jane Morris), who’ll figure prominently into the end of season arc. “What happens for Tony is, for the first time, he’s genuinely interested in someone who’s real,” he says laughing. “It’s not a blowup doll. It’s not the coffee girl who’s a college student. She’s not a Mossad assassin. I felt that is was this great opportunity for Tony to kind of develop a crush maybe, and possibly explore normal feelings about someone, as opposed to going undercover and then falling in love with the girl who doesn’t even know your name and whose father is an arms dealer you’re trying to bust, for instance.” (We remember that arc well, we tell him. “What’s fun is [the series] plays now on USA on an almost constant loop, right, and people say, ‘Ah, that was a long time ago.’ Well, not if you were watching USA. It was yesterday,’” he jokes.)

That said, Weatherly insists tonight’s episode, written by Jesse Stern, is still focused on the core characters. “I was really thrilled ’cause I got to direct a car chase where Gibbs [Mark Harmon] catches a bad guy… or does he?” he teases. You’ll see a fair number of rearview mirror shots and close-ups of Gibbs, which is an homage to Bullitt. Weatherly storyboarded that sequence with Patrick Barrett, who also storyboarded the underwater rescue in Season 5. (Weatherly himself storyboarded a running chase.) Another sequence he’s proud of: They shot scenes with Williams, who plays Leona Phelps, at an actual women’s prison in California, which stood in for Camp Cupcake (where Martha Stewart stayed). “The actual prison wall in the dormitory had a saying painted on it. It said, ‘She who plants weeds cannot expect to pick flowers,’ and I fell to the floor laughing,” Weatherly says. “I thought, Ohmygod, it’s got to be in our episode. So we had them paint it on another wall closer to where Gibbs is gonna be interrogating Leona. We start the scene on this saying, and that kind of stuff, it’s divine inspiration. I think it’s what makes NCIS so fun to watch, too. It’s playful and there’s energy, as well as a cracking good story.”

Is Weatherly already thinking about directing another episode? “Yeah, what we’re thinking is there’s a young couple on the bow of a boat, and they’ve just fallen in love. Has that been done before? No, you know what I’m thinking: How about if there’s a genetically-engineered girl and there’s a guy in a wheelchair. No wait a minute, that sounds familiar,” the former star of James Cameron’s Dark Angel cracks. “No, I can’t wait to do it again, and I’m proud that I was allowed to join another union.” In the meantime, he’ll just practice. “Cut,” he says, when we end the interview. “See how I did that?”

Michael Weatherly may have stepped behind the camera to direct this Tuesday’s episode of NCIS (CBS, 8/7c), but you’ll see plenty of DiNozzo – and perhaps see him in a new way – when a (pretty) new face evokes a blast from his past. Weatherly spoke with TVLine about calling the shots as director, and how Tony’s heroic spirit is about to be reawakened.

TVLINE | Was there a specific something that made you say, “I want to direct. I can do this”?
No, it’s been a building interest. I’ve been really lucky to work with some really great film people in the past, but television works on a much quicker schedule, and it’s the TV directors I’ve worked with that I looked to and became a big fan of. The Tom Wrights, Dennis Smiths, Tony Wharmby, Terrence O’Hara, Jimmy Whitmore Jr…. These guys each have done 30, 35 episodes, which is extraordinary. I know I’m geeking about it a bit, but I just love the technical aspects of it all, and this was an incredible opportunity in a very safe environment.

TVLINE | Did the script present you with any special challenges? Any crane shots, pyrotechnics…?
Oh yeah. They didn’t throw me a softball, let me put it to you that way. We had to do a car chase, and everyone was working 110 percent. There was so much action stuff, I was on pure adrenaline the whole time. We also had an incredible guest cast with JoBeth Williams (Private Practice) and Sarah Jane Morris (Brothers & Sisters), who’s playing this new agent, EJ Barrett. That’s not a normal episode thing, to introduce someone who’s going to arc out toward the end of your season and be a part of that epic season-finale situation.

TVLINE | What’s the significance that Special Agent Barrett took the overseas NCIS job that Jenny Shepard offered Tony years ago?
It’s a nice wrinkle. And what it means for DiNozzo is he’s going to answer a couple of penetrating, deep questions, like, “Did I make the right decision?” Beyond that, he’s intrigued by the person that did take the job. It turns out she’s a pretty compelling adult, unlike some of the women Tony has been interested in in the past. [Their interaction] is unfettered by the complication of her being an undercover mark whose father is an arms dealer, to name one example. He never has made very good choices before.

TVLINE | If they were up for the same job, they must be equals in a lot of ways.
Absolutely. That instantly gets his respect and triggers his curiosity. I had a lot of fun working with Sarah on how to find this character, this EJ. It’s gonna be reallllly good.

TVLINE | How does she differ from Ziva (Cote de Pablo)?
She’s the diametric opposite of Ziva – physically, and in her demeanor, her way of being. She has her eccentricities as well, which makes her adorable to Tony and highly irritating to Ziva.

TVLINE | I saw a recent interview where you said that, with this episode, you felt as if Tony had awoken from a four-year sleep. How so?
What I meant is it was four years ago that he passed on that opportunity. Four years ago he went undercover, and after that the director of the agency, someone who placed a great deal of confidence in him, was killed — possibly because Tony wasn’t as on point as he should have been, so he feels some responsibility for that. Then he was sent away by the new director to sit on an aircraft carrier for four months to think about it. The way I’ve approached this is that Tony in Seasons 6 and 7 became a very reflective character, because he was floundering. He doesn’t have a strong sense of identity. You see that when Robert Wagner does these great guest shots [as Tony’s father], you see this “kid” inside Tony. Where’s the heroic agent? But, with the appearance of EJ, suddenly there’s a renewed spirit that Tony has always had in him – it’s what made him to go Africa and rescue Ziva with McGee. Sometime he acts like a goofball because that’s what people expect, but in this episode he comes away from that place. We’ll see what the audience thinks, but for me, he feels potential and possibility in a way that he hasn’t for years. EJ is a mirror, so he sees that hope for himself again.

TVLINE | Can you say what sort of season finale cliffhanger we’re building towards?
Hmm. I don’t know. You’ll have to ask the powers-that-be. I’m just a guy who jumps into the Tony outfit – though sometimes Tony’s not wearing any clothes! But not in this episode.

On the CBS hit “NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service,” Michael Weatherly plays Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo, who is a subordinate to Special Agent Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon), but behind the scenes Weatherly turned the tables, calling the shots in a new episode that he directed.

In the episode airing Tuesday, March 1, the NCIS team has a new agent added to their group and she might stir up trouble between DiNozzo and Ziva (Cote de Pablo). Michael chatted with ET’s Mary Hart about the chemistry between himself and Cote.

“It’s an explosive chemistry,” said Michael. “Cote and I always have so much fun,” said Michael. “Just the other day we sat down at lunch and we spent our whole lunch kind of rehearsing the scene and getting it into shape and figuring out what the attack was. And we always have completely different ideas about what the scene means, so by the time we start shooting we are adversarial and I think it always helps that we both have such strong opinions.”

For Michael’s “freshman effort” in the directing world he had to pull double duty, working behind and in front of the camera, but the actor wasn’t discouraged by the heavy workload.

Michael told Mary that he initially thought, “How hard can it be?” Now he calls that assumption “famous last words.”

“It is harder than I anticipated,” said Michael. “But what’s incredible about this group, and you know because you’ve been there, is that you have so much support and you have so many people kind of rooting for you that I felt completely lifted up by the whole experience.”

On the show, Michael is a hopeless flirt with the ladies, but in reality the actor is happily married to Bojana Jankovic, who is a doctor.

“She’s very tolerant of my actor mood swings,” Michael said of his wife whom he wed in 2009.

Tiva ‘shippers, brace for impact: Without a Trace vet Enrique Murciano is joining the cast of NCIS for multiple episodes as the oft-referred-to-but-never-seen new man in Ziva’s (Cote de Pablo) life.
Exec producer Gary Glasberg says the character, CIA agent Ray Cruz, will prove to be a “fun, smart, exciting addition” to the show, adding “We can’t wait to watch Enrique bring him to life and interact with the NCIS team.”
As I reported in last week’s Ask Ausiello, Ray will be introduced in this season’s 20th episode. “I think it’s going to be interesting,” Michael Weatherly, the guy who puts the Tony in Tiva, recently said of Ray’s arrival. “Tony cares about Ziva and wants to make sure she’s not mixed up with the wrong kind of guy, so he’s going to be watchful and protective of her.”
That is if he’s not too busy generating sparks with the new girl in his life — agent Erica Jane “EJ” Barrett, played by Brothers & Sisters‘ Sarah Jane Morris. For more on that, check out Matt Mitovich’s complete Q&A with Weatherly on Tuesday.

“CI-Ray Is On the Way!” | That is wordsmith Michael Weatherly’s way of trumpeting that fans of CBS’ NCIS will meet Ziva’s mystery man later this season. “I think it’s going to be interesting,” Weatherly told me. After all, he notes, “Tony killed Ziva’s last boyfriend.” (Hate when that happens.) There’s also the none-too-small fact that “Tony cares about Ziva and wants to make sure she’s not mixed up with the wrong kind of guy, so he’s going to be watchful and protective of her.” Check back Tuesday for Weatherly’s full Q&A, where he talks about making his directing debut on TV’s most-watched scripted series and previews the sparks-filled arrival of Special Agent EJ Barrett (played by Brothers & Sisters‘ Sarah Jane Morris).
