No need to Shield your eyes from this NCIS news: Catherine Dent is coming on board for two episodes this fall as Whitney Sharp, a former agent who shares a past with Ducky.

David McCallum’s medical examiner character will be featured in one of the show’s promised “origin episodes” and his relationship with Sharp will play a major role in that story.

EW reports that the former star of The Shield will be on “at least two episodes,” meaning this role could continue even after November sweeps. That certainly sounds intriguing.

Dent’s character is described as an educated, bright, and extremely capable federal agent who had an eye for talent and a tongue for persuasion back in the day. No surprise.

Is Michael Nouri’s return to ‘NCIS‘ as Eli David connected to the November sweeps Ziva storyline? – Lyss
“Yes, it is,” series boss Shane Brennan tells the Big Tease. “Be prepared for a double episode that takes one of our characters into a dark and dangerous past.” And which character might that be? Let Rocky Carroll drop this clue: “[Leon Vance and Eli David] have a past, and we’re going to delve into that. We start to unveil and peel back more about the Vance character” – including, perhaps, a bit on the infamous shredded document.

Do you have any hints as to why Robert Wagner is coming back to ‘NCIS‘? – Carlee
I turn this first question over to the Hintmaster himself, Shane Brennan. “R.J. Wagner’s return as the charming Anthony DiNozzo Sr. recaptures all the fun and chaos that resulted from his last visit,” the ‘NCIS’ boss tells the Big Tease. What’s more, he says the encore “reveals an emotionally charged moment between father and son that’s not to be missed.” So hinty!

‘NCIS‘ Jimmy Palmer might not have grabbed much screen time in the CBS hit’s season premiere, but this Tuesday at 8/7c, viewers will get to see Ducky’s right-hand man fear for the worst when the office gets “invaded” by a group of strangers. Brian Dietzen shared with us a look at Jimmy’s upcoming adventures, explains why he’s the cast member no one wants to work with, and reveals the one thing ‘NCIS’ will not do to fend off ‘Glee.’

We didn’t get to see too much of you in the season premiere, but I trust you’re here to tell me that’s about to change.
That is correct, sir. Absolutely. The season premiere was awesome, but when you’re dealing with a Mexican drug cartel, there isn’t a whole lotta room for the assistant medical examiner. Which is fine. [Laughs]

Mark Harmon himself said last spring that your amount of screen time was something he wanted to see “straightened out” this season.
Yeah, he said that in a TV Guide article where we were sitting at a roundtable. I was sitting there thinking, “Yeah, keep talking!” [Executive producer] Gary Glasberg says, “There will be a lot more Jimmy goodness,” and that’s reflected in the first few shows. I’m in five out of the first six, starting with this week’s episode.

That’s the one with guest star William Devane (’Knots Landing’), right?
Yes. Steve Binder wrote it and I absolutely loved the script. It involved the kidnapping of a young girl, which has anger-fueled ties for Gibbs, whose daughter died at a young age. I can’t wait to see Harmon go through it and see what he does. In addition to that, Jimmy Palmer gets to have his own kind of worst nightmare as well. There are a bunch of interns that NCIS hired from local colleges, and one of them ends up inadvertently threatening Jimmy’s position. That sends Jimmy into a bit of a tailspin.

What must it be like having the likes of William Devane, Robert Wagner and Michael Nouri walk the ‘NCIS’ halls?
It’s really cool. I mean, we’re sitting here with television and film legends. Everybody is certainly appreciative of it, but I never lose sight of the fact that my No. 1 scene partner is one of the biggest TV legends out there, David McCallum. To work with that guy every day puts me in an enviable position. I didn’t watch ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’ when I was young – it was before my time – but since I started on the show I went and rented ‘The Great Escape ‘and more of his work.… That guy has got a story for everything he has worked on. He’s similar to Ducky in that way.

What about the Oct. 5 episode guest-starring Abby Brammel (’The Unit’) as a bomb tech suspected of murder – is Jimmy up to anything there?
That one is called “Short Fuse” and Abby did a fantastic job – from what I saw. Unfortunately, I generally only get to work with [guest stars] when they die.

You’re the cast member no one wants to work with!
If you work with me, there’s a good guarantee you’re not going to be recurring, buddy. [Laughs] Yeah, in that one Jimmy and Ducky have good autopsy stuff and some fun at the crime scene as well.

When I was prepping for this interview, I found a video of you and Sean Murray (”McGee”) at E3 this summer. What’s the coolest thing you saw there?
Some PlayStation stuff came out using 3-D technology. I played Kill Zone 3, in 3-D, and that was pretty awesome.

Do you play games during your downtime on the set?
No, for the most part, everybody pretty much just hangs out on the set. Neither David nor I ever go into our trailers. That’s a cool reflection on our cast, because no one wants to sit in their trailer waiting to get called.

Is it right that you do some singing?
Yeah, I just finished a movie last month called ‘Karaoke Man,’ where I sang onstage in a superhero outfit. [Laughs] It was something that James Denton from ‘Desperate Housewives’ got together with some of his friends to produce.

So, since Michael Weatherly sings too, what are the odds we get a Jimmy-Tony jam session one day?
We were talking about this the other day. Cote De Pablo’s got an amazing Broadway voice, Pauley Perrette has a band called Stop Making Friends, Michael is one of the most talented individuals I ever met, David McCallum worked in the opera for many, many years and his father was a very famous musician…. Between all of these people, I think we should be able to have, like, a band maybe? Or…

‘NCIS: The Musical Episode.’
Someone said that the other day at a fan event. I thought, if we did that last year, maybe. But now that we’re up against ‘Glee,’ it’d look like we’re trying too hard!

The Unit star Abby Brammell has been enlisted to guest-star in an upcoming episode of NCIS, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.

In an episode titled “Short Fuse,” Brammell, 31, will play a bomb tech who becomes linked to a homicide. During the investigation, the NCIS team will have to dig into her character’s very guarded personal life for answers.

Best known for her role as adulterous housewife Tiffy Gerhardt on The Unit, Brammell has also held recurring roles on Six Feet Under, The Shield and Star Trek: Enterprise. She most recently appeared on such shows as Lie to Me, Castle and The Mentalist.

NCIS kicked off its eighth season Tuesday at 8/7c on CBS. Brammell’s episode is slated to air Tuesday, Oct. 5.

NCIS’ assistant medical examiner Jimmy Palmer can’t stay lovably dim forever, right?

“I wanted the character to grow a little bit and learn a bit from what he’s been doing the last seven years in autopsy,” Brian Dietzen tells TVGuide.com of his character’s growth this season. “Jimmy’s always kind of been the bumbling guy who’s a half a beat behind. We don’t want to lose any of that, but … if this guy hasn’t learned a thing since the first season, he’d get canned pretty quickly.”

Jimmy will start on that path in Tuesday’s episode, when a handful of interns are called into help with a kidnapping investigation. Unfortunately for Jimmy, he feels a little left out when his boss, Ducky (David McCallum), takes an interest in of one of the interns, Sarah Knox (guest star Elizabeth Wright Shapiro).

“Jimmy feels more than a little bit threatened by this gal coming into autopsy,” Dietzen says. “It seems he can read the writing on the wall, and he tries to enlist the help of any of the other agents to give him a job and make him feel important. He fears that his importance in autopsy is slipping away. It’s a really fun show for Jimmy because he’s running around like a chicken with its head cut off.

“She knows a bit more than Jimmy does about Scotland, singing, and quite a few different things that Ducky really takes a shine to,” Dietzen continues. “She’s new, she’s young, and she’s eager to learn. That’s all the stuff that Jimmy has been in the past, and he’s sent into sort of a tailspin.”

Dietzen says his character’s relationship with mentor Ducky is similar to his with McCallum in real life. “I get to go to work every day and work with a TV acting legend,” Dietzen says. “We have some great guest stars on the show like Robert Wagner and Ralph Waite. … It’s great to meet these folks, but I never lose sight of the fact that I get to do it every day I go to work. There’s a lot that’s translated into the characters. Jimmy’s always learning from Ducky, and I am constantly learning from David.”

So will Jimmy be able to prove his value and get some affirmation by episode’s end? “Absolutely not,” Deitzen says with a laugh. “I think that would be great, but by the same token, it’s smart of our writers to always keep the characters on their toes. It’s great to have a conclusion where people say, ‘You’re loved and you’re appreciated.’ But sometimes they don’t. I like it that certain things are left open-ended, and that’s what they decide to do with this.”

Even so, Jimmy will appear in four of the next five episodes, which will give his character plenty of time to prove himself. “We’re going to see a lot of Jimmy Palmer stuff,” Dietzen says. “When I asked [executive producer] Gary Glasberg what I can say about this season, he said, ‘Tell them they’re going to get a lot more Jimmy goodness.’

“He’s constantly learning,” Dietzen continues. “There are going to be mistakes still made along the way. Although he’s going to try to impress and try to do his job extremely well, Jimmy’s always had a knack for asking questions about the obvious. As far as Jimmy becoming a very confident fellow who knows how to solve the case by himself, I don’t think it will get to that point. But I do think the character will graduate to another level.”

NCIS airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on CBS.
