Diane Neal realized just how avid NCIS fans are soon after her initial appearance on the show.

“After I did that first episode, I’d be walking down the street and people would [say], ‘What’s going on with Tiva?’ and I was like, ‘Why is everyone talking about a pair of sandals?'” she says. Neal soon learned that “Tiva” is the shipper name for fans who want to see a Tony DiNozzo-Ziva David coupling.

Does Neal, who recurs on the CBS show as Agent Abigail Borin, want to see the two together? “It’s hard because once people actually get together it’s kind of ruined,” she says.

In the interview below, Neal, who will return to NCIS in the upcoming season, shares her thoughts on whether Borin and Gibbs (Mark Harmon) might hook up and tells us how she’d love to do a comedy.

NCIS (CBS)
Premieres:
Tuesday, Sept 20, 8/7c

Where We Left Off: The team found and killed Jonas Cobb, aka the Port-to-Port Killer. E.J. Barrett (guest star Sarah Jane Morris) removed a microchip from the arm of one of her dead agents. And the new Secretary of the Navy (guest star Matt Craven) gave Tony a top-secret mission to find someone who had been leaking NCIS intel.

What’s Next: Sounds like all the big mysteries will be answered in the season premiere, which covers all the time that’s passed between seasons via flashbacks “You’re going to get the answer to the microchip, the answer to who was in that photograph, and somebody’s going to die,” executive producer Gary Glasberg teases. Also this season, we’ll meet McGee’s grandmother (guest star Lily Tomlin) and Abby will learn an impactful secret about her past. Plus: A previously unseen old friend of Ziva’s will surface

If you’re on pins and needles awaiting the new season of NCIS after last season’s cliffhanger left you guessing at who Tony DiNozzo was investigating next, you’re not alone. Pauley Perrette is just as excited — and clueless — as you are. “We’re shooting out of sequence for the first three episodes, so we still don’t know [what happened],” said Perrette at the Television Critics Association press tour. “I have no idea what was in the envelope.”

From ETonline:

The cast of “NCIS” was also in attendance to the big CBS event. The crew of the highly popular series is currently filming season nine, and seeing as the close of season eight left some major cliffhangers, “NCIS” fans have a lot of questions to be answered.

“I’m getting hounded on Twitter and the street everywhere,” exclaims Pauley Perrette. “‘What’s in the envelope?!’ We’re the last people to know. That’s in all the smart people/writer’s hands.”

Cote De Pablo says to expect a whole lot of DiNozzo in the upcoming season. “I’m not going to give it all away but it’s really good and it’s really interesting. It’s DiNozzo heavy, which I love!”

What does Hetty’s resignation have to do with Callen’s history? A whole lot, as we’re about to learn in tonight’s “NCIS: LA” season finale (9/8c). Executive producer Shane Brennan explained how Hetty’s sudden disappearance is tied to information she possesses about Callen’s identity, and discussed how next season will delve deeper into each character’s backstory.

Take us inside your approach to the finale, and what you wanted to accomplish.
The finale turns the focus back on Callen and the many unanswered questions he has about his identity. Hetty is central to the finale and, as fans have come to realize, knows more about Callen than she’s prepared to admit.

Did anything disappoint you about this season? Anything you wish you could have done, but didn’t have the time, forethought or resources?
There were a couple of stories that I intended to tell this season that will now have to wait until season three. That’s not a bad thing. It means that as we’ve explored the characters this season – in particular Deeks and Sam – we’ve found there are more stories to tell, more to reveal about them.

What should fans look forward to next season? And if you haven’t gotten that far yet…what would your dream season be?
We’re well into preparing for next season – and it’s already shaping up to be the best season to date! It’s all about building the mythology of the series. We’re at a point now where we know a little about all of our regular characters’ back stories…but we want to know more. Season three will build on that, digging deeper into who they are and what makes them tick. The series arc is an exploration of identity, focusing on Callen discovering the truth about who he is… But as we journey with him, we also get to learn more about Sam, Kensi, Deeks, Hetty, Eric and Nell. And as for the dream season? That’ll be the last season of the series, when we take all of these character and story strands and draw them together…

What were the high points of the season?
So many high points this season. Kensi and Deeks’ blossoming relationship; the powerful conclusion of the Sam-Mo storyline; Callen finding more pieces of his ‘Who am I?’ jigsaw; and absolutely everything that involved Hetty!

Do you have a favorite episode, line, or scene from this season? If so – what?

I’d have to say the opening sequence of the first episode of the season. A breathtaking, compelling chase that in many respects epitomizes what this series is about – Callen trying to find out who he really is…
