Rocky Carroll is stepping behind the camera for a winter episode of NCIS, EW has learned exclusively.
The actor, who plays NCIS Director Leon Vance, will direct an upcoming episode of the CBS procedural. Details are being kept under wraps, but he’ll follow in the footsteps of costar Michael Weatherly (Tony DiNozzo), who directed episodes in seasons eight and 10.
“I’m honored and humbled by this opportunity to make my directorial debut on NCIS,” Carroll says. “I’ve always believed that my greatest strength as an actor, the thing that has been most important to my success, is my ability to collaborate with others. It has served me well as an actor and I’m going to rely very heavily on it as a director!”
Adds executive producer Gary Glasberg: “Rocky Carroll’s versatility and range of talent never ceases to amaze us. We know how gifted he is in front of the camera. We’re very excited to add the job of director to his impressive resume.”
NCIS airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on CBS.
NCIS co-star Michael Weatherly has finalized a new deal with series producer CBS Studios. Under the two-year pact, Weatherly will return to the highly rated CBS drama where he has been since the pilot, playing Anthony DiNozzo. His new agreement also includes an overall development deal for Weatherly’s newly launched production company, Solar Drive Productions. “I am thrilled for the opportunity to continue playing Very Special Agent Tony DiNozzo on NCIS for seasons 12 and 13,” Weatherly said. “Leslie (Moonves), Nina (Tassler) and David (Stapf) have been incredibly supportive of my growth over the last decade and I couldn’t be more excited about working with them on the production side. My new company, Solar Drive Productions, will have fancy letterhead and nice furniture.” Weatherly joins fellow NCIS cast members Sean Murray, Pauley Perrette, David McCallum and Rocky Carroll who also recently renewed their contracts for two more seasons. The entire cast of the veteran CBS drama series is set to return next fall. Weatherly is repped by Anonymous and McKuin, Frankle, Whitehead.
CBS’ NCIS had dodged its annual agita attack this year, with the re-signing of five series regulars whose contracts expire this spring.
TVLine has learned that Michael Weatherly‘s new deal to return to TV’s most watched drama for Seasons 12 and 13 is due to close imminently, while Sean Murray, Pauley Perrette, David McCallum and Rocky Carroll already have signed on the dotted line.
Fellow series regulars Mark Harmon, Brian Dietzen and Emily Wickersham are working off different contract cycles.
The Waltons star Ralph Waite, who more recently recurred on Bones and NCIS, has died at the age of 85.
Waite portrayed John Walton Sr. for nine seasons on the CBS Depression-era drama and in three NBC telefilms. After the series wrapped, he appeared on Murder One, Carnivàle and the miniseries Roots among others.
Bones fans will recognize Waite as Booth’s grandfather and caretaker Hank. He also played dad to Mark Harmon’s character Gibbs on NCIS, and recurred on Days of Our Lives as Father Matt.
Bones executive producers Hart Hanson and Stephen Nathan issued the following statement:
“All of us at Bones mourn the loss of Ralph Waite. We loved having him on set and in many ways his character was the moral center of our show as Booth’s plainspoken, loving, war hero grandfather. The entire Bones family sends condolences to his family and loved ones.”
While the NCIS cast and crew issued this remembrance:
